Visitor Visas

Visitor visas and super visas: what officers assess and how to prepare

Purpose of visit, funds, ties and credibility — the four pillars of a temporary resident visa application.

A visitor visa application is a credibility exercise. The officer must be satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your authorised stay.

Purpose of visit

Be specific. “Tourism” with no itinerary, no bookings and no explanation is weaker than a clear plan tied to your circumstances.

Funds

Show that you can pay for the trip without working in Canada. Bank statements should have a history that matches your stated income.

Ties

Employment, property, dependants and community responsibilities all matter. So does a realistic reason to return.

The super visa

For parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents, the super visa allows longer visits and requires private medical insurance meeting the published conditions, plus a host who meets the income requirement.
